About the LEGO London Bus set
The red double-decker modelled on the London Routemaster, with a panoramic windscreen, a destination sign and an open platform at the back. From there a half spiral staircase leads to the upper deck. Under the opening bonnet sits the engine, and the driver’s cab has a sliding door. Lift off the roof and upper deck and you see the worn seats on the lower deck, where an umbrella, a newspaper and an empty can have been left behind. The advertising panels on the sides carry stickers on both faces: one in 1950s style, one showing today’s London.
The 1’686 pieces take 6 to 8 hours. The long side walls with their rows of windows are repetitive; the staircase and the driver’s cab break it up. Finished, the bus is 34 cm long and 18 cm tall and matches the scale of the other Creator Expert vehicles. LEGO no longer sells the set, but rented, it can still stand on your shelf for a month.
Common questions about the LEGO London Bus
How long does the LEGO London Bus (10258) take to build?
Reckon on 6 to 8 hours for the 1'686 pieces. The long side walls with their rows of windows are repetitive; the spiral staircase at the back, the driver's cab and the rows of seats inside break it up.
How big is the LEGO London Bus once built?
The bus is 34 cm long, 13 cm wide and 18 cm tall. It fits on a normal shelf, but the upper deck means it needs noticeably more height than the cars at the same scale.
Can you still buy the LEGO London Bus?
No, the LEGO Shop lists set 10258 as discontinued. New copies are only available from resellers; the former retail price was CHF 149.–.
Is the LEGO London Bus hard to build?
No, the set is rated 16+ and most steps are straightforward. The half spiral staircase at the back and the many window frames, which have to sit exactly in long rows, take some patience.
Can you see inside the LEGO London Bus?
Yes. The roof and upper deck lift off, revealing the lower deck with worn seats and things left behind: an umbrella, a newspaper, an empty can and a discarded piece of chewing gum. The open platform at the back also holds a bin for used tickets and a fire extinguisher.
Questions about the BlockAbo rental model
How does BlockAbo actually work?
You pick a set from our collection and we send it to your door for free. You build it, keep it as long as you like, and send it back when you are ready for the next one. After a month at the earliest, with no upper limit. Then you choose your next set.
What does BlockAbo cost and what is included?
There are three options: the single rental at a one-off CHF 42.–, the monthly plan at CHF 39.– per month and the yearly plan at CHF 29.– per month. Included are the complete set, delivery to you and the cleaning. You cover the return, and the label is already in the box.
Can I cancel the subscription at any time?
Yes. The monthly plan can be cancelled to the end of any month, with no reason and no notice period. You send the set back and that is that. The yearly plan commits you for twelve months and costs about a quarter less per month in return.
How hygienic are rented LEGO sets?
Every set is washed at 30 °C with soap after it comes back, dried, and checked brick by brick for completeness. Only then does it go out again. So you never get a set somebody else has been through unchecked.
Why are all the pieces mixed in one bag?
After every rental the set is washed and checked brick by brick for completeness. After that the numbered bags from the original packaging are gone, and you get all the pieces loose in one large wash bag. Up to about 2'000 pieces you build straight from the bag; for bigger sets a bit of sorting first is worth it. For the return you sort nothing: take the set fully apart and put every piece back in the wash bag.
Why are there no building instructions in the box?
Paper instructions and sticker sheets do not last many rentals, so we send the sets without them. The instructions for every set are free at lego.com/en-ch/service/building-instructions and in the LEGO Builder app. Search there by set number or name.
What happens if pieces are missing or break?
Up to ten lost small pieces are no problem and are included in the price. It happens, vacuum cleaners are merciless. We only get in touch for larger damage or missing large pieces. You do not have to go over the carpet with tweezers.
How fast does the set reach me?
Orders placed before 14:00 go out the same working day. After that Swiss Post usually takes one to two working days. We deliver anywhere in Switzerland and delivery to you is free.
Why is renting more sustainable than buying?
A LEGO set is usually built once and then sits on a shelf or in a cellar for years. With us the same set passes through eight to ten people. For the same number of sets built, that is up to 90 % less newly produced plastic.
