About the LEGO Bookstore: Book Nook set

A book nook that stands between your books and opens like a book. Closed, you see a blue book cover with gold corners from the side and the entrance to Brickville Books from the front. Opened out, it reveals a bookshop over two floors with balconies, a spiral staircase, a writing desk, reading nooks and a small café counter. The shelves hide references to well-known novels, such as a golden cup, a magnifying glass and the statue of a black cat. Two minifigures are included.

The 1’690 pieces take 4 to 6 hours to build. The time goes into the interior, into the many small books, the ornate balcony railing and the spiral staircase. Opened out, the model is 40 cm wide, 20 cm high and only 7 cm deep. LEGO currently sells the set for CHF 149.–. Rented, you build it once and then decide whether you want something like it on your shelf for good.

Common questions about the LEGO Bookstore: Book Nook

How long does the LEGO Bookstore Book Nook (11379) take to build?

Plan on 4 to 6 hours for the 1'690 pieces. The frame with the book spine goes quickly. Most of the time goes into the interior: shelves full of small books, the ornate balcony railing and the spiral staircase.

How big is the LEGO Bookstore Book Nook when built?

Opened out, it is 40 cm wide, 20 cm high and 7 cm deep. Closed, it stays the same height, so your shelf needs a good 20 cm of clearance. Opened out, it fits on a shelf or a windowsill.

Can you still buy the LEGO Bookstore Book Nook?

Yes. The set is new in LEGO Icons and costs CHF 149.– in the LEGO Shop. When LEGO will retire it is not known. Rented, you build it without putting yet another model on your shelf for good.

What is the difference from the LEGO Bookshop 10270?

They are two different sets. The Bookshop 10270 is a Modular Building from 2020 with two houses and 2'504 pieces, made to stand in a street of buildings. The Book Nook 11379 is a flat diorama with 1'690 pieces that stands between your books and opens up so you can look inside.

Which literary references are hidden in the LEGO Bookstore?

LEGO itself names a golden cup, a magnifying glass and the statue of a black cat. LEGO does not say which novels they point to; working that out is part of the fun. There is also a writing desk with a typewriter, reading nooks on both floors and a small café counter.

Questions about the BlockAbo rental model

How does BlockAbo actually work?

You pick a set from our collection and we send it to your door for free. You build it, keep it as long as you like, and send it back when you are ready for the next one. After a month at the earliest, with no upper limit. Then you choose your next set.

What does BlockAbo cost and what is included?

There are three options: the single rental at a one-off CHF 42.–, the monthly plan at CHF 39.– per month and the yearly plan at CHF 29.– per month. Included are the complete set, delivery to you and the cleaning. You cover the return, and the label is already in the box.

Can I cancel the subscription at any time?

Yes. The monthly plan can be cancelled to the end of any month, with no reason and no notice period. You send the set back and that is that. The yearly plan commits you for twelve months and costs about a quarter less per month in return.

How hygienic are rented LEGO sets?

Every set is washed at 30 °C with soap after it comes back, dried, and checked brick by brick for completeness. Only then does it go out again. So you never get a set somebody else has been through unchecked.

Why are all the pieces mixed in one bag?

After every rental the set is washed and checked brick by brick for completeness. After that the numbered bags from the original packaging are gone, and you get all the pieces loose in one large wash bag. Up to about 2'000 pieces you build straight from the bag; for bigger sets a bit of sorting first is worth it. For the return you sort nothing: take the set fully apart and put every piece back in the wash bag.

Why are there no building instructions in the box?

Paper instructions and sticker sheets do not last many rentals, so we send the sets without them. The instructions for every set are free at lego.com/en-ch/service/building-instructions and in the LEGO Builder app. Search there by set number or name.

What happens if pieces are missing or break?

Up to ten lost small pieces are no problem and are included in the price. It happens, vacuum cleaners are merciless. We only get in touch for larger damage or missing large pieces. You do not have to go over the carpet with tweezers.

How fast does the set reach me?

Orders placed before 14:00 go out the same working day. After that Swiss Post usually takes one to two working days. We deliver anywhere in Switzerland and delivery to you is free.

Why is renting more sustainable than buying?

A LEGO set is usually built once and then sits on a shelf or in a cellar for years. With us the same set passes through eight to ten people. For the same number of sets built, that is up to 90 % less newly produced plastic.
