About the LEGO Land Rover Defender set
The current generation Defender, developed together with Land Rover and unveiled in 2019 alongside the real car. Under the bonnet sits an inline six with moving pistons, and below it four-wheel drive with three differentials and independent suspension on both axles. You see the sequential 4-speed gearbox with its low range when you fold the rear seats forward. The tailgate opens with a turn of the spare wheel, and there is a working winch at the front.
Plan on 8 to 12 hours, most of it on the chassis. The gearbox has to be built exactly to the instructions, or the gears will not shift cleanly at the end. Finished, the model is 42 cm long and sits well on a sideboard. LEGO took it off the shelves at the end of 2022; renting it, you build it once more without having to buy it.
Common questions about the LEGO Land Rover Defender
How long does the LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender (42110) take to build?
Plan on 8 to 12 hours for the 2573 pieces. Most of that goes into the chassis, with its gearbox, four-wheel drive and independent suspension. The olive green bodywork and the roof rack go faster at the end.
How big is the LEGO Land Rover Defender 42110 when built?
The model is 42 cm long, 20 cm wide and 22 cm high. It fits on a deep shelf or a sideboard, but needs considerably more room than the Defender from the Icons range.
Can you still buy the LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender?
No. LEGO took set 42110 off the shelves at the end of 2022, and lego.com lists it as no longer available. New copies now only come from resellers.
Is the LEGO Land Rover Defender hard to build?
The set is rated 11+, but it asks for care. The gearbox is made of many gears that have to sit exactly right, and a mistake often only shows when the gears will not shift during testing. So check it straight after fitting it.
How does the gearbox in the LEGO Defender work?
It is a sequential 4-speed gearbox with a low range. One lever chooses between high and low ratio, a second shifts the gears. Fold the rear seats forward and you can watch the gearbox at work. It drives all four wheels through three differentials.
Questions about the BlockAbo rental model
How does BlockAbo actually work?
You pick a set from our collection and we send it to your door for free. You build it, keep it as long as you like, and send it back when you are ready for the next one. After a month at the earliest, with no upper limit. Then you choose your next set.
What does BlockAbo cost and what is included?
There are three options: the single rental at a one-off CHF 42.–, the monthly plan at CHF 39.– per month and the yearly plan at CHF 29.– per month. Included are the complete set, delivery to you and the cleaning. You cover the return, and the label is already in the box.
Can I cancel the subscription at any time?
Yes. The monthly plan can be cancelled to the end of any month, with no reason and no notice period. You send the set back and that is that. The yearly plan commits you for twelve months and costs about a quarter less per month in return.
How hygienic are rented LEGO sets?
Every set goes through our quality check after it comes back, before it goes out again. We check its condition, wash the sets regularly at 30 °C with soap and keep track of whether every piece is there. That way a clean and complete set reaches you.
Why are all the pieces mixed in one bag?
The sets are checked between rentals and washed regularly. That is why the numbered bags from the original packaging are gone, and you get all the pieces loose in one large wash bag. Up to about 2'000 pieces you build straight from the bag; for bigger sets a bit of sorting first is worth it. For the return you sort nothing: take the set fully apart and put every piece back in the wash bag.
Why are there no building instructions in the box?
Paper instructions and sticker sheets do not last many rentals, so we send the sets without them. The instructions for every set are free at lego.com/en-ch/service/building-instructions and in the LEGO Builder app. Search there by set number or name.
What happens if pieces are missing or break?
Up to ten lost small pieces are no problem and are included in the price. It happens, vacuum cleaners are merciless. We only get in touch for larger damage or missing large pieces. You do not have to go over the carpet with tweezers.
How fast does the set reach me?
Orders placed before 14:00 go out the same working day. After that Swiss Post usually takes one to two working days. We deliver anywhere in Switzerland and delivery to you is free.
Why is renting more sustainable than buying?
A LEGO set is usually built once and then sits on a shelf or in a cellar for years. With us the same set passes through eight to ten people. For the same number of sets built, that is up to 90 % less newly produced plastic.
