About the LEGO Roller Coaster set

The Roller Coaster belongs to LEGO’s fairground series, between the Ferris Wheel and the Haunted House. Red track runs over a frame of white supports, a crank at the station drives the chain lift, and from the top the train rolls back on its own. There are two trains with three cars each and lap bars that fold down. Below stand a ticket booth, a photo booth, a juice bar, a candyfloss cart and a height checker, and eleven minifigures come with it.

The 4’124 pieces take 12 to 16 hours, and a large part of that is the frame, which is very repetitive. Finished, the ride is 88 cm wide and 41 cm deep, so a whole sideboard. LEGO has not sold it since the end of 2021, and new copies are only available through resellers. Renting here means letting it run for a few weeks and then having your sideboard back.

Common questions about the LEGO Roller Coaster

How long does the LEGO Roller Coaster (10261) take to build?

Reckon on 12 to 16 hours for the 4'124 pieces. Most of the time goes into the white frame: dozens of supports made of identical round bricks and cross braces that you raise one after another. The station, the ticket booth and the small stalls in between are the variety.

How big is the LEGO Roller Coaster once built?

It is 88 cm wide, 41 cm deep and 53 cm tall. The width is the problem: that is more than a usual shelf, so you need a sideboard or a table of its own. Upwards, on the other hand, a normal alcove is enough.

Can you still buy the LEGO Roller Coaster?

No. Set 10261 came out in 2018 and has been discontinued since the end of 2021. New copies are only available through resellers. Its successor is the Loop Coaster 10303 from 2022.

Does the LEGO Roller Coaster really run?

Yes. A crank at the station drives the chain lift, which pulls the train up to the highest point. From there it rolls on its own over the drops and curves back into the station. There are two trains with three cars each. With separately available Power Functions parts the lift can be motorised.

What is the difference from the LEGO Loop Coaster?

The 2018 Roller Coaster has no loops, but instead a dense frame of white supports and red track. With 4'124 pieces it is the bigger set. The Loop Coaster 10303 is clearly taller at 92 cm, but less deep, and runs on yellow track over blue supports through the loops.

Questions about the BlockAbo rental model

How does BlockAbo actually work?

You pick a set from our collection and we send it to your door for free. You build it, keep it as long as you like, and send it back when you are ready for the next one. After a month at the earliest, with no upper limit. Then you choose your next set.

What does BlockAbo cost and what is included?

There are three options: the single rental at a one-off CHF 42.–, the monthly plan at CHF 39.– per month and the yearly plan at CHF 29.– per month. Included are the complete set, delivery to you and the cleaning. You cover the return, and the label is already in the box.

Can I cancel the subscription at any time?

Yes. The monthly plan can be cancelled to the end of any month, with no reason and no notice period. You send the set back and that is that. The yearly plan commits you for twelve months and costs about a quarter less per month in return.

How hygienic are rented LEGO sets?

Every set goes through our quality check after it comes back, before it goes out again. We check its condition, wash the sets regularly at 30 °C with soap and keep track of whether every piece is there. That way a clean and complete set reaches you.

Why are all the pieces mixed in one bag?

The sets are checked between rentals and washed regularly. That is why the numbered bags from the original packaging are gone, and you get all the pieces loose in one large wash bag. Up to about 2'000 pieces you build straight from the bag; for bigger sets a bit of sorting first is worth it. For the return you sort nothing: take the set fully apart and put every piece back in the wash bag.

Why are there no building instructions in the box?

Paper instructions and sticker sheets do not last many rentals, so we send the sets without them. The instructions for every set are free at lego.com/en-ch/service/building-instructions and in the LEGO Builder app. Search there by set number or name.

What happens if pieces are missing or break?

Up to ten lost small pieces are no problem and are included in the price. It happens, vacuum cleaners are merciless. We only get in touch for larger damage or missing large pieces. You do not have to go over the carpet with tweezers.

How fast does the set reach me?

Orders placed before 14:00 go out the same working day. After that Swiss Post usually takes one to two working days. We deliver anywhere in Switzerland and delivery to you is free.

Why is renting more sustainable than buying?

A LEGO set is usually built once and then sits on a shelf or in a cellar for years. With us the same set passes through eight to ten people. For the same number of sets built, that is up to 90 % less newly produced plastic.
