About the LEGO Bookshop set

The Bookshop is the Modular Building made of two narrow houses rather than one: on the left the shop with a display window, bookshelves and a reading corner, on the right a townhouse with its own façade. Both buildings are furnished inside, the floors lift off, and five minifigures are included. The façades, with bay windows and pitched roofs, recall a small European old town.

The 2’504 pieces take 7 to 9 hours, and because you build two houses one after the other, it never gets monotonous. With a 25 × 25 cm footprint the model fits on any shelf and is one of the smaller in the series. LEGO retired it at the end of 2023. Rented, you build it once without paying the collector’s price.

Common questions about the LEGO Bookshop

How long does the LEGO Bookshop (10270) take to build?

Plan on 7 to 9 hours for the 2504 pieces. You build two narrow houses one after the other, which keeps it varied. The façades with their bay windows and the roof take the most time.

How big is the LEGO Bookshop when built?

The model is 25 cm wide, 25 cm deep and 29 cm high. That makes it one of the smaller Modular Buildings, and it fits on a normal shelf.

Can you still buy the LEGO Bookshop?

No. Set 10270 came out in 2020 and was retired at the end of 2023. New, it cost CHF 209.–, and since then it has only been available from collectors. Rented, you build it once without the mark-up.

What's inside the LEGO Bookshop?

Two buildings: on the left the bookshop with a shop window, bookshelves and a reading corner, on the right a townhouse. Both are furnished inside, and the floors lift off. Five minifigures are included.

Questions about the BlockAbo rental model

How does BlockAbo actually work?

You pick a set from our collection and we send it to your door for free. You build it, keep it as long as you like, and send it back when you are ready for the next one. After a month at the earliest, with no upper limit. Then you choose your next set.

What does BlockAbo cost and what is included?

There are three options: the single rental at a one-off CHF 42.–, the monthly plan at CHF 39.– per month and the yearly plan at CHF 29.– per month. Included are the complete set, the instructions, delivery to you and the cleaning. You cover the return, and the label is already in the box.

Can I cancel the subscription at any time?

Yes. The monthly plan can be cancelled to the end of any month, with no reason and no notice period. You send the set back and that is that. The yearly plan commits you for twelve months and costs about a quarter less per month in return.

How hygienic are rented LEGO sets?

Every set is washed at 30 °C with soap after it comes back, dried, and checked brick by brick for completeness. Only then does it go out again. So you never get a set somebody else has been through unchecked.

What happens if pieces are missing or break?

Up to ten lost small pieces are no problem and are included in the price. It happens, vacuum cleaners are merciless. We only get in touch for larger damage or missing large pieces. You do not have to go over the carpet with tweezers.

How fast does the set reach me?

Orders placed before 14:00 go out the same working day. After that Swiss Post usually takes one to two working days. We deliver anywhere in Switzerland and delivery to you is free.

Why is renting more sustainable than buying?

A LEGO set is usually built once and then sits on a shelf or in a cellar for years. With us the same set passes through eight to ten people. For the same number of sets built, that is up to 90 % less newly produced plastic.
