About the LEGO The Endurance set

The Endurance is the ship in which Ernest Shackleton set out for Antarctica in 1914, and which was crushed in the pack ice of the Weddell Sea. In 2022 the wreck was found at a depth of about 3’000 metres. That discovery is what prompted this model. The replica has three masts with sails set, a funnel for the steam engine, a propeller and rudder at the stern, and a deck that lifts to reveal the cabins and galley below. A stand and an information plaque are included.

With 3’011 pieces you are busy for around ten hours, plus patience for the rigging: the shrouds are tensioned with cord, and that step is the only genuinely fiddly one in the whole set. Built, the ship is 80 cm long, considerably more shelf than most people have permanently free. There are no minifigures; the model is purely a display piece.

Common questions about the LEGO The Endurance

How long does the LEGO Endurance take to build?

Reckon on 10 to 14 hours. The hull with its 3'011 pieces goes briskly, because it is built in sections. The time then goes into the masts and rigging: the shrouds are tensioned with cord and want to be lined up cleanly, or the rig hangs crooked.

How big is the LEGO Endurance once built?

It measures 80 × 24 × 47 cm on the stand supplied. The length is the real issue: 80 cm takes a whole shelf, and because of the masts you need close to 50 cm of height above it as well. A normal bookcase is usually not enough.

Are minifigures included with the LEGO Endurance?

No, the set contains no minifigures. It is meant as a scale ship model rather than a play set, and the wood-effect stand and the information plaque with the ship's data, which you place in front of it, fit that.

Is the LEGO Endurance hard to build?

The hull is straightforward, the rigging is not. Tensioning and knotting the cords is the part most people get stuck on, and it asks for steady hands rather than experience. If you have built a LEGO sailing ship before, you know the principle.

Can you see inside the LEGO Endurance?

Yes, the main deck lifts off. Underneath you see the cabins, the galley and the crew's stores. At the stern the propeller and rudder are modelled too. The Endurance was a sailing ship with an auxiliary steam engine, and the model shows both.

Questions about the BlockAbo rental model

How does BlockAbo actually work?

You pick a set from our collection and we send it to your door for free. You build it, keep it as long as you like, and send it back when you are ready for the next one. After a month at the earliest, with no upper limit. Then you choose your next set.

What does BlockAbo cost and what is included?

There are three options: the single rental at a one-off CHF 42.–, the monthly plan at CHF 39.– per month and the yearly plan at CHF 29.– per month. Included are the complete set, the instructions, delivery to you and the cleaning. You cover the return, and the label is already in the box.

Can I cancel the subscription at any time?

Yes. The monthly plan can be cancelled to the end of any month, with no reason and no notice period. You send the set back and that is that. The yearly plan commits you for twelve months and costs about a quarter less per month in return.

How hygienic are rented LEGO sets?

Every set is washed at 30 °C with soap after it comes back, dried, and checked brick by brick for completeness. Only then does it go out again. So you never get a set somebody else has been through unchecked.

What happens if pieces are missing or break?

Up to ten lost small pieces are no problem and are included in the price. It happens, vacuum cleaners are merciless. We only get in touch for larger damage or missing large pieces. You do not have to go over the carpet with tweezers.

How fast does the set reach me?

Orders placed before 14:00 go out the same working day. After that Swiss Post usually takes one to two working days. We deliver anywhere in Switzerland and delivery to you is free.

Why is renting more sustainable than buying?

A LEGO set is usually built once and then sits on a shelf or in a cellar for years. With us the same set passes through eight to ten people. For the same number of sets built, that is up to 90 % less newly produced plastic.
