About the LEGO Taj Mahal set
The Taj Mahal from the Architecture range shows the mausoleum in Agra with everything that makes it recognisable: the large dome, the four chhatris with their small domes, the tall arched niches of the façades and the four minarets at the corners of the platform. The floor is a chequerboard of white and beige tiles, and the spires are gold. Lift off the roof with the main dome and you can look into the burial chamber with the tombs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan.
Allow 4 to 6 hours for the 2’022 pieces. Because the building looks the same on all four sides, you build the façades, minarets and chhatris four times each, and you notice it towards the end. Finished, the model measures 23 × 23 cm and fits on a normal shelf. LEGO retired the set at the end of 2024, and you can still build it with us.
Common questions about the LEGO Taj Mahal
How long does the LEGO Taj Mahal (21056) take to build?
Allow 4 to 6 hours for the 2'022 pieces. The base with its tiled floor goes quickly. Most of the time goes into the four façades, the four minarets and the four chhatris, each of which you build several times in the same way.
How big is the LEGO Taj Mahal once built?
The model is 23 cm wide, 23 cm deep and 20 cm high. It fits on a normal 30 cm deep shelf. Because it looks the same on all four sides, it can also stand freely on a table.
Can you still buy the LEGO Taj Mahal 21056?
No. Set 21056 came out in June 2021 and was retired at the end of 2024; new, it cost CHF 149.– in Switzerland. Since then it is only available from resellers, usually for more than it used to cost. You can still build it by renting it.
Is the LEGO Taj Mahal hard to build?
No, but it is fiddly. The 18+ age rating is more about patience than difficult techniques. The challenge is the repetition: with four identical sides, a swapped piece only shows when one side looks different from the others.
What is the difference between the LEGO Taj Mahal 21056 and 10256?
The size. 10256 from the Creator Expert range has 5'923 pieces and measures around 51 × 51 cm at 41 cm high. 21056 from the Architecture range has 2'022 pieces and needs only 23 × 23 cm. The smaller one fits on a shelf, the larger one needs a table of its own.
Questions about the BlockAbo rental model
How does BlockAbo actually work?
You pick a set from our collection and we send it to your door for free. You build it, keep it as long as you like, and send it back when you are ready for the next one. After a month at the earliest, with no upper limit. Then you choose your next set.
What does BlockAbo cost and what is included?
There are three options: the single rental at a one-off CHF 42.–, the monthly plan at CHF 39.– per month and the yearly plan at CHF 29.– per month. Included are the complete set, delivery to you and the cleaning. You cover the return, and the label is already in the box.
Can I cancel the subscription at any time?
Yes. The monthly plan can be cancelled to the end of any month, with no reason and no notice period. You send the set back and that is that. The yearly plan commits you for twelve months and costs about a quarter less per month in return.
How hygienic are rented LEGO sets?
Every set goes through our quality check after it comes back, before it goes out again. We check its condition, wash the sets regularly at 30 °C with soap and keep track of whether every piece is there. That way a clean and complete set reaches you.
Why are all the pieces mixed in one bag?
The sets are checked between rentals and washed regularly. That is why the numbered bags from the original packaging are gone, and you get all the pieces loose in one large wash bag. Up to about 2'000 pieces you build straight from the bag; for bigger sets a bit of sorting first is worth it. For the return you sort nothing: take the set fully apart and put every piece back in the wash bag.
Why are there no building instructions in the box?
Paper instructions and sticker sheets do not last many rentals, so we send the sets without them. The instructions for every set are free at lego.com/en-ch/service/building-instructions and in the LEGO Builder app. Search there by set number or name.
What happens if pieces are missing or break?
Up to ten lost small pieces are no problem and are included in the price. It happens, vacuum cleaners are merciless. We only get in touch for larger damage or missing large pieces. You do not have to go over the carpet with tweezers.
How fast does the set reach me?
Orders placed before 14:00 go out the same working day. After that Swiss Post usually takes one to two working days. We deliver anywhere in Switzerland and delivery to you is free.
Why is renting more sustainable than buying?
A LEGO set is usually built once and then sits on a shelf or in a cellar for years. With us the same set passes through eight to ten people. For the same number of sets built, that is up to 90 % less newly produced plastic.
