About the LEGO Himeji Castle set

Japan’s best-known castle, also called the White Heron because of its white walls, as an Architecture model of 2’125 pieces. The main keep with its stacked grey roofs stands on a sloping stone base, flanked by smaller towers, corridors and walls that deliberately do not run symmetrically. The upper part of the main keep lifts off and reveals a simplified floor plan. Three cherry trees stand in the garden, two green and one in pink blossom.

The pieces go together in 6 to 8 hours. The base and the garden terraces are quick; the time goes into the roofs with their many small grey and white elements. Finished, the castle is 32 cm wide, 27 cm deep and 19 cm tall and fits on a sideboard. The set has been available from LEGO since 2023 for CHF 169.–. Rented, you build it, display it for a while and then send it back.

Common questions about the LEGO Himeji Castle

How long does the LEGO Himeji Castle take to build?

Reckon on 6 to 8 hours for the 2'125 pieces. The base, walls and garden go quickly. Most of the time goes into the stacked roofs of the main keep, with their upturned corners made from many small grey pieces.

How big is the LEGO Himeji Castle once built?

It is 32 cm wide, 27 cm deep and 19 cm tall. The baseplate is almost square, so the castle needs depth more than width. A sideboard or a deep shelf is enough.

Can you still buy the LEGO Himeji Castle?

Yes. Set 21060 came out in 2023 and is available on lego.com for CHF 169.–. LEGO has not yet named an end date.

Is the LEGO Himeji Castle hard to build?

It is rated 18+, but it is not complicated. The demanding part is the sheer number of similar grey and white pieces in the roofs, which are easy to mix up. Good light and sorted pieces help.

Can you open the LEGO Himeji Castle?

Partly. The upper part of the main keep lifts off in one piece. Underneath is a simplified floor plan of the building; it has no interior furnishing.

Questions about the BlockAbo rental model

How does BlockAbo actually work?

You pick a set from our collection and we send it to your door for free. You build it, keep it as long as you like, and send it back when you are ready for the next one. After a month at the earliest, with no upper limit. Then you choose your next set.

What does BlockAbo cost and what is included?

There are three options: the single rental at a one-off CHF 42.–, the monthly plan at CHF 39.– per month and the yearly plan at CHF 29.– per month. Included are the complete set, delivery to you and the cleaning. You cover the return, and the label is already in the box.

Can I cancel the subscription at any time?

Yes. The monthly plan can be cancelled to the end of any month, with no reason and no notice period. You send the set back and that is that. The yearly plan commits you for twelve months and costs about a quarter less per month in return.

How hygienic are rented LEGO sets?

Every set is washed at 30 °C with soap after it comes back, dried, and checked brick by brick for completeness. Only then does it go out again. So you never get a set somebody else has been through unchecked.

Why are all the pieces mixed in one bag?

After every rental the set is washed and checked brick by brick for completeness. After that the numbered bags from the original packaging are gone, and you get all the pieces loose in one large wash bag. Up to about 2'000 pieces you build straight from the bag; for bigger sets a bit of sorting first is worth it. For the return you sort nothing: take the set fully apart and put every piece back in the wash bag.

Why are there no building instructions in the box?

Paper instructions and sticker sheets do not last many rentals, so we send the sets without them. The instructions for every set are free at lego.com/en-ch/service/building-instructions and in the LEGO Builder app. Search there by set number or name.

What happens if pieces are missing or break?

Up to ten lost small pieces are no problem and are included in the price. It happens, vacuum cleaners are merciless. We only get in touch for larger damage or missing large pieces. You do not have to go over the carpet with tweezers.

How fast does the set reach me?

Orders placed before 14:00 go out the same working day. After that Swiss Post usually takes one to two working days. We deliver anywhere in Switzerland and delivery to you is free.

Why is renting more sustainable than buying?

A LEGO set is usually built once and then sits on a shelf or in a cellar for years. With us the same set passes through eight to ten people. For the same number of sets built, that is up to 90 % less newly produced plastic.
